Two years ago, Jacksonville police Officer Malik Daricaud was severely injured in the line of duty. It happened in March of 2023, when he was investigating a traffic incident. He went to a home, knocked on the door and as soon as the door opened, the suspect shot officer Daricaud in the neck.
He was severely hurt, suffering an extensive spinal cord injury and subsequently spent over 400 days in Brooks Rehabilitation. Last year, he was awarded a Purple Heart for his bravery.
This year, he has received a gift that will make sure he doesn’t have to worry about having a place to rest his head as he continues to recover.
The Fraternal Order of Police gave Officer Daricaud a check for $142,000, to pay off his mortgage. It is the organization’s largest donation to date.
It couldn’t go to a more worthy person. Thank you for your service, Officer Daricaud.
