The first ever award for arts education from the Cathedral Arts Project was given to a principal who spent his own off time going to his art students’ extracurricular activities.
Christopher Begley, the principal at Samuel Wolfson School for Advanced Studies, has received the Principal of the Arts Award. The the award is to recognize principals “who demonstrate exceptional commitment to delivering high-quality arts education for their students.”
According to the panel that selected Mr. Begley as the winner, he was chosen because he has “taken concrete steps to foster a culture that values arts,” including purchasing new music equipment, making room for visual arts student exhibitions and attending arts students’ extracurricular events on his own time.
In addition to the award, Mr. Begley earned a check for $1,500 for his school.
Congratulations, Mr. Begley!
