More Americans Are Embracing a Sober Holiday Season

Are you relying on booze to get through the holiday chaos? A new poll reveals that fewer Americans are turning to alcohol or substances this year, with more opting to face the festivities sober.

According to the survey, 48% of Americans don’t plan to drink or smoke anything during the holidays, an increase from 42% two years ago. Meanwhile, only 11% plan to indulge in both drinking and smoking, a slight dip from 13%.

For those who aren’t staying sober this season, here’s what they say they’ll be drinking the most:

  1. Beer – 22%
  2. Wine – 21%
  3. Eggnog – 19%
  4. Mixed drinks – 17%
  5. Straight liquor – 10% (for the no-nonsense crowd)

Other beverages trailed behind, with only 6% choosing cider or spiked seltzer and 5% going for champagne.

Whether you’re celebrating with a toast or “raw-dogging” the holidays without a drink in hand, the season looks a little different for everyone this year.
